So this is us with our beautiful daughter Poppy Victoria Eagle earlier this year, we love a ball and any opportunity to dress up!

On 7/8/24 our lives changed forever when Poppy's heart stopped suddenly and unexpectedly.

Steadfast efforts at home and by emergency services were unsuccessful. Our beautiful daughter, with no symptoms, no known cardiac problems, apparently fit and healthy, regular gym goer, passionate fashion student at University of the Arts London, kind and beautiful, Poppy found beauty in all that she did.

Poppy's Light Foundation

Our vision is to support any child or young person struggling or feeling alone.

Poppy’s light will shine on in adversity, in trauma, in bereavement, working with families through holistic activities and include funding for well being experiences and items to improve children’s lived experience and bring happiness.

Our purpose will advance health care in our region through targeted grass roots and school-based screening of cardiac abnormalities for children and young people aged 14-21. It is estimated as many as 1 in 300 children and young people have a silent undiagnosed heart condition, it is our pledge to raise awareness of young and unexplained cardiac deaths so that screening may enable the detection and management of cardiac conditions to prevent death and further deterioration of the heart, for lives to be lived wholly and to the full, without fear.

My purpose as charity founder is to support existing services and bring new services to advance health and wellbeing for children and young people.

My chosen trustees are skilled in Strategic planning, and my own background is in public health. Additional patrons have a focus on the arts after trauma. My passion and love for the NHS lives on, I miss my enormous work family, I acknowledge, a service delivering in ever challenging circumstances. I seek to close the gap in bereavement services for siblings. Research informs us that losing your sibling in childhood is equivocal to losing your child.

There is a significant gap in service provision for bereaved children in our region. In addition, we also have the highest proportion of children being exploited nationally, highest rates of parents facing addiction and generational trauma, compounded by the highest number of children nationally living in temporary accommodation.

Currently since August, we have raised a staggering £18, 921 in support of bringing joy to children when they need it most.

Charity’s Purpose

Poppy’s Light Foundation will offer support to children through holistic interventions. With an additional advancing health offer to prevent young sudden cardiac deaths in our region through awareness, screening and research, and support for affected families.

In January 2025 it’s the big one! We are lacing up our hiking boots, and taking on the mighty challenge

of trekking one of the world’s seven summits, the highest mountain in Africa

Poppy’s Dad Peter, and brother Oliver, are joined by close friends Ted Boyle, Phil Ingamells, Paul Reid and Tom Reid

to form our team of intrepid explorers, led by our guides Craig and Luke from Uncharted Summits, they will spend 10 days

trekking over 19341ft in elevation up to the Uhuru Point Summit, with the aim of  standing on the tip of Africa

flying the flag for Poppy, and Poppy’s Light Foundation.

They are facing interchangeable weather conditions, extreme altitude, up to 18 hour trekking days including a

midnight push to the summit

Providing them with a physically gruelling and mentally demanding challange like none of them have ever faced before.

Poppy’s Light Foundation are dedicated to raising awareness of cardiac abnormalities in 14-21 year olds,

all funds raised from this Kilimanjaro Trek are aiming to fund our revolutionary mobile heart screening units.

If you can, please donate to our cause. any level of donation helps us to raise awareness of unexplained cardiac deaths in young people

which could prevent others from losing a loved one far too soon. Thank You.

Santa Run 2025

It's almost time for Washington Running Club's annual Santa Run, where hundreds of Santa's and Elves can be seen running around the streets of the town and all in aid of a good cause!

This year, we are proud and thankful to announce that Washington Running Club have chosen Poppy's Light Foundation to be the recipients of every penny collected and pound raised.

The Santa Run takes place on Sunday, December 15th, starting out at the Westwood Club at 11am. The full route will be announced closer to the time.

While there is the spectacle of the running Santa's in the streets of Washington, there will also be a raffle and various fundraisers in the Westwood Club afterwards. All are encouraged and welcomed to attend, and it would be great to see anyone and everyone out on the streets on the day.

Washington Running Club are also hoping people can help out with donations to the event, which can be brought along to their sessions at Columbia Grange School (Thursday's 7pm and Sunday's 9am) or handed over to runners, run-leaders or committee members for safe keeping.

Donations can also be dropped off at CM Hairdressing in the Lauren E Summers Salon in Washington Village.

All donations, gifts and ideas will be welcomed and much appreciated by all.

Poppy's Light Foundation would like to extend our warmest thanks to everyone at Washington Running Club.
