Our wonderful friend Dawn Starkey is taking on the mighty challenge of running 52 half-marathons in 52 weeks!
Dawn will accomplish the feat through a combination of long run training miles,
as well as participating in a number of organised events, including;
the Copenhagen half-marathon in September,
the Valencia half-marathon in October
and the Boston marathon in April!
All in support of Poppy's Light Foundation.
We could not be prouder of Dawn, and will be cheering her on every single step of the way, You're amazing Dawn!!
Thank You!

A huge update on Dawn's incredible challenge; 52 half marathons in 52 weeks in support of Poppy's Light Foundation!
Dawn has not only took on, but also smashed the legendary Boston Marathon!
Wearing her Poppy’s Light vest with pride, Dawn ran with Poppy in her heart every step of the way.
Dawn even added Poppy’s name to the Boston wall of support! a truly powerful tribute!
At Heartbreak Hill, Dawn was overcome with emotion, not because of the climb (she actually likes hills!),
but because she was thinking of Poppy, and the unimaginable loss her family has endured.
It was their strength, their love, and Poppy’s memory that carried her through.
Hearing shouts of “Go Poppy’s Light Foundation!” from the crowd was a powerful reminder of the impact this journey is having.
Dawn, we are in awe of your strength, your heart and your determination.
Thank you for shining Poppy’s Light so brightly, over the miles and across the world.

from two events!
Amazing! Thank You!
Poppy's Light Foundation would like to say a huge Thank You to you! and our amazing teams!
Between our Afternoon Tea event, and our intrepid explorers taking on their mighty trek to Kilimanjaro, we have raised over £8000! Contributing towards our amazing total!
Thank you so much!
We are overwhelmed with your kindness.

January 2025 was the big one! We laced up our hiking boots, and took on the mighty challenge
of trekking one of the world’s seven summits, the highest mountain in Africa
Poppy’s Dad Peter, and brother Oliver, were joined by close friends Ted Boyle, Phil Ingamells, Paul Reid and Tom Reid
to form our team of intrepid explorers, led by our guides Craig and Luke from Uncharted Summits, they spent several days
trekking over 19,341ft in elevation up to the Uhuru Point Summit, to stand on the tip of Africa
flying the flag for Poppy, and Poppy’s Light Foundation.
They faced interchangeable weather conditions including 50mph+ winds on summit night, extreme altitude,
and up to 18 hour trekking days including a midnight push to the summit deep into minus temperatures
The entire trek was a physically gruelling and mentally demanding challenge like none of them had ever faced before.
Poppy’s Light Foundation are dedicated to raising awareness of cardiac abnormalities in 14-21 year olds,
all funds raised from this Kilimanjaro Trek are aiming to fund our revolutionary mobile heart screening units.
If you can, please donate to our cause. any level of donation helps us to raise awareness of unexplained cardiac deaths in young people
which could prevent others from losing a loved one far too soon. Thank You.

Santa Run 2025
December saw Washington Running Club's annual Santa Run, where hundreds of Santa's and Elves can be seen running around the streets of the town and all in aid of a good cause!
This year, we are proud and thankful to announce that Washington Running Club chose Poppy's Light Foundation to be the recipients of every penny collected and pound raised.
The Santa Run took place on Sunday, December 15th, starting out at the Westwood Club at 11am.
The spectacle of the running Santa's in the streets of Washington was quite something to behold! There was also a raffle and various fundraisers in the Westwood Club afterwards.
It was so great to see everyone out on the streets on the day.
All donations, gifts and ideas were welcomed and much appreciated by all.
Poppy's Light Foundation would like to extend our warmest thanks to everyone at Washington Running Club.
