Creating heart-safe school environments and reducing cardiac risk in the young
Schools are essential partners in ensuring the safety and emotional well-being of young people. Poppy’s Light Foundation works with schools to raise awareness of Sudden Arrhythmic Deaths (SADS) and Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICCs), helping educators understand the profound impact these conditions can have on students and their families. Our goal is to empower schools to manage cardiac risk in the young proactively and confidently.
This includes understanding how inherited cardiac conditions can present in young people and how early awareness can significantly reduce cardiac risk in the young within school settings.
Guidance and resources for educational settings
Through workshops, comprehensive guidance, and tailored resources, we support schools and universities in creating safe and informed environments where children and young people feel understood, supported, and empowered. This extends beyond immediate clinical knowledge to foster a culture of inclusion and awareness.
We provide staff with resources to:
- Educate staff and students about SADS and the signs of ICCs.
- Understand the psychological and social impacts of a heart condition on a student’s daily life, academic performance, and peer relationships.
- Proactively assess and manage participation in physical education and activities, ensuring inclusion remains a priority while actively mitigating cardiac risk in the young.
By partnering with us, educational institutions demonstrate a deep commitment to the health, safety, and emotional well-being of every pupil and student.
